Car Problems Part II
After the last car problems I thought I'd be clear for awhile. Well - this weekend the engine light and the coolant light came back on. Then, worst of all, last night the engine temperature gauge turned into the red. I was close to home but it still made me very nervous.
This morning I had the car towed back into the shop and they gave me an old-model Mercedes loaner with no stereo. I'm happy for the loaner but my podcast listening time will probably be limited this week as a result.
I'll let you know what the damage/problem is when I find out.
Hmmm - is this life with a 9+ year old car?

I dunno... It's a BMW, yes? That should be good well into its early teens (not that I've owned one, but it just seems as thought it should).
I grew up in a household where my dad owned only American cars (he currently owns a Honda and a Nissan), that would be fruitful for 10 years, with very few or no repairs, then just suddenly die.
I figure if the discount autos he drove were good for 10, the beamer should be good for 12-15, don't you?
Of course, I've found that around the 70-80K mark, you'll find most cars going through some "growing pains", and if you've got a good car, you may have some major repairs, but be good for another 70-80K once you get through that period.

We've got a 7 year old minivan and a 5 year old gas-electric hybrid, and knock wood they are running well, today. I just noticed that my car is making some kind of weird knocking noise when I brake - in the rain - and my maintenance required light came on today.
It's about time for some weird stuff to happen with the cars anyway, so I'm not surprised.
I've had bad luck with every auto I've ever owned, so I never assume that any of them should behave like... well, like my trusty Mongol No 2 Pencils.
